Natural Resource Management Center
The Natural Resource Management Center (NRMC) is the maintenance hub at Mirimichi. Thought and care have gone into the design and construction of the NRMC, and proper management practices are implemented to preserve natural resources.
While the majority of other maintenance facilities do not adhere to such stringent practices, Mirimichi is leading the industry in environmental stewardship.

-
Audubon International Classic Sanctuary
The Mirimichi team partnered with Audubon International and consulted with Audubon Environmental so that the renovation of the golf facilities would implement sustainable resource management principles that incorporate wildlife conservation, habitat rehabilitation and enhancement, water conservation and water quality protection. Audubon International (AI) certification requires a yearly audit to ensure Mirimichi continues to implement these natural resource management principles long term. -
GEO Certified
Mirimichi is one of the first ten courses world-wide to be recognized as GEO Certified from the Golf Environmental Organization (GEO). This prestigious designation recognizes our commitment to environmental sustainability by protecting and enhancing ecosystems and biodiversity, maximizing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and conserving cultural heritage and landscapes. We adhere to the promise of continual improvement, and regularly monitor and review environmental performance indicators to ensure progress. -
Future Clubhouse
Mirimichi’s future clubhouse will be designed and constructed to meet the highest green building and performance measures. These measures will substantially reduce water and energy consumption, protect indoor air quality and occupant health, and use sustainable building materials that include local and recycled materials, as well as reduce the amount of construction waste diverted to area landfills. -
Buffers, Littoral Shelves, Wildlife Habitat Enhancement
Along with conversion of turfgrass to grassland habitat, buffers and littoral shelves (shelves planted with aquatic vegetation along banks) have been added to on-site streams and ponds. Buffers and shelves protect water quality and provide safe, easy access to water resources for wildlife. -
Natural Resource Management Center (NRMC)
The NRMC, or maintenance facility for Mirimichi, is the building in which pieces of equipment are serviced, and pesticides, fuel, fertilizer, and cleaning solvents are stored. The building has been designed to reduce the potential for spills and prevent pollution of soil, surface water, or ground water. -
Integrated Pest Management
IPM strategies have been incorporated into every aspect of the plan and maintenance of the golf course. IPM strategies reduce the need for large scale applications of fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals, ensure that materials used to maintain the landscape are safe for the environment, and that materials are applied properly by trained and licensed contractors. -
Best Management Practices
To ensure that storm water runoff does not carry pollutants or nutrients from managed areas of the golf course or impervious areas such as parking lots or cart paths, a system has been designed to treat, filter, and allow for infiltration of runoff prior to entering any environmentally sensitive areas. -
Water Quality Monitoring Program
To ensure that on-site wetlands, ponds, Caney Creek, and Big Creek are not degraded from construction or long term use and management of the property, a water quality monitoring program has been implemented. This will involve regularly measuring how ‘clean’ the water is throughout Mirimichi and in nearby Big Creek. -
Native Landscapes and Increased Out-of-Play Areas
The Mirimichi landscape team has thus far reduced the managed turf on the golf course by over 100 acres. Managed turf requires relatively more water, fertilization, and chemicals to control pests than native grasses, shrubs, and trees. These converted native areas also provide habitat for wildlife to feed, rest, breed, and use as safe corridors in which to move across the property. -
Education and Outreach
Mirimichi has made it their number one priority to implement sustainable land development and building strategies to protect the natural communities on site. Mirimichi has created guides and implemented training to educate employees and golfers about these measures. Mirimichi will become a model of sustainability that inspires others to engage in environmental stewardship.
